It’s August which means many of us are closing up shop and setting off on holiday. One place on our wish list, as much for the jaw-dropping views as its wildly graphic interior design, is Maison La Minervetta. Perched on the postcard cliffs of Sorrento along Italy’s Amalfi Coast, the family-owned bed and breakfast was opened by Don Giovanni Cacace in the 1950’s and continues to exude a classic style of Italian eclecticism.

The hotel’s interior strikes the perfect balance between bold and charming with clever pairings of designer furniture and bohemian accents. Think Gio Ponti-style bentwood chairs and vibrant striped upholstery mixed with Lisa Corti textiles and Vietri pottery. But it’s the striking interplay of ceramic tiles that really steals the show. Graphic stripes and checks grace not only the bathrooms but also the kitchen and common areas in a collision of brilliant reds and blues. This completely fresh take on Mediterranean style is thanks in large part to the present generation of the Cacace family, including Marco Cacace, whose roots as a scenographer clearly played a hand.

Design aside, each of the 12 rooms boast sweeping views across the Bay of Naples to Mount Vesuvius and breakfast is served on the terrace, including homemade fruit preserves and a smattering of locally sourced meats and cheeses. If you can manage the 300-step descent along a massive winding staircase, the Marina Grande fishing village located below the hotel is downright story-book.
